The Activation Force Problem
Apple Pencil requires approximately 2.5 grams of physical force against the screen before it registers a stroke. This physical threshold is designed to prevent false positives when hovering.
However, for traditional artists accustomed to soft graphite or fine liners, 2.5g is highly noticeable. It forces users to press slightly harder than natural, leading to hand fatigue over long sessions.
Interface uses an optical force transducer rather than a mechanical spring. This allows us to drop the activation force to 0.8g—meaning the ink flows the exact millisecond the titanium tip makes contact with the glass.
